Fiona Murphy
My art practice over 35 years includes mixed media works on paper, sculpture and ceramics. I am recognised nationally and internationally through collections which include the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and Art Bank. I have exhibited in international awards and curated exhibitions including the USA, Germany and Italy.
Organic form and amorphous shapes are the focus in my art practice. My mixed media reliefs express life through its fragments, details and textures to explore the interconnections that make up watery worlds. From years of observing reefs, tidal movements, and environmental change- wild nature is my muse. The idea of a microcosm is explored through sculptural fragments of larger things. Transformation, states of flux and growth, are expressed within my real and imagined worlds. Imagery includes, micro-life and architectural rubble overgrown with coral-like forms.
